I came to visit my Grandparent s tomb inside The Catacombs, and pay my respects. When I finally arrived I had discovered the tombs had been destroyed, someone had dug up the bodies! Who would do such an evil thing? I noticed two parallel streaks connecting the uncovered gravesite to a tunnel I had never seen before inside The Catacombs. Whoever decided to desecrate a sacred burial ground and drag the bodies away, they will surely pay! After I exited the tunnel, I came upon a large room. It was inlaid with many skulls, a plethora of its stonework was deeply cracked, the wooden tiles completely rotten, and cobwebs littered the ceiling, as if no one stepped foot in here for years. I heard something, a deep growl, and it was coming from inside the tunnel. I need to go further and keep following this trail, but I can t help being afraid at what possibly lurks inside. As I relentlessly pursued the body snatcher, I heard the groans get louder and louder. Although I was scared, I gathered up my courage and kept going. As I turned the corner, I saw it. Carefully picking up the remnants of a broken sword beside me, I slowly began to approach it. As I was nearing combat distance, I stepped on a bone, alerting the creature. As it turned around, I dropped my weapon, and my face turned pale. It was a distorted face of sorrow and anguish. Pieces of flesh were slowly falling off of her, as if she was a rotten fruit. It was the face of my Grandma. "G-grandma, is that you?" I asked with expectation, but my own naivety betrayed me. It stepped towards me, a cruel grin stretching her face to unbelievable proportions. That face terrified me, I even threw up. Then she- no- it lunged at me. With tears rolling down my face, I turned around and began running. I don t know how long I ran for, but the feeling in my legs gave out long ago. "That wasn t her, there s no way!" I wanted to plead for help, I wanted someone to comfort me. But deep down I knew the truth, and that help would never come. Worn out, I finally backtracked to the tunnel s entrance. "I need to report this to the Mage Association, they can solve this predicament!" But what happened was most definitely evil magic. This is the lab report of Dr. Myles, Scientist of the Mage Association, in conjunction of Officer Roy of the Adventurer s Guild, and Documentation of The Catacombs. Roy will be my assistant with this, and also in future Lab Reports. Early Autumn 10 Today the mage association hauled an undead organism into the lab, and I was given a brief description of what it was doing in the Catacombs. Unfortunately, I was not present during the capture process. The creature matches most historical descriptions of undead humans known as Zombies. This specimen resembles an old female, seeming to have originally died of old age. We christened the newly discovered zombie, New. New is the first Zombie seen and recorded in over 400 years, when the infamous Kaeman returned to the Castle. When compared to previous records of Zombies, we found striking similarities, just as we theorized. They only care for human flesh. Early Autumn 16 Upon further study we have that the traits of New are as follows; Simple wounds are patched over time, although its process of rotting seems to be natural. They also have a sense for humans that are within their vicinity. Early Autumn 29 During our daily necropsy, we realized its tissues are regenerating faster than before. In light of this evolution we have to take our testing to the next stage- fresh human corpses. Autumn 6 New gave birth to another Zombie. We named the newborn Two. While it is still unclear how the contagion spreads, this alarming discovery raises multiple questions. These answers can only be found in the Catacombs. Autumn 7 Two is far too powerful. We have failed to curb its vicious tendencies. Officer Roy was found dead in the testing facility, ripped limb from limb. Both Zombies are now exterminated. The Expedition Volume 1 日本語 +... Rumors were spreading in the Kingdom concerning the living corpse found in the crypts, and after the tragedy in the facility, people s mindsets started to worsen. General Dan would lead the expedition, accompanied by Solomon. The King believed sending a mage from his personal guard would appease the villagers. Once again this subterfuge was seen through by court members. At nightfall, the garrison had gathered enough resources for at least 5 days of traveling, but only the bare minimum of necessities. The group of 50 soldiers and 3 mages would take their leave in the morning, right as the rooster crows. We entered the Catacombs. I still have no idea what we re looking for in this death hole, nobody tells me much anyways. After all, in the army, I m at the bottom of the food chain. Before entering this giant graveyard, I couldn t believe any of the stories. But now that I m here, I m not sure what to think anymore. This place is darker than a moonless night, everything is tainted with shadows. Everywhere I look I see stone and dust. I don t want to be buried in a forgotten place like this. Now that I think of it, most of those people were probably soldiers like me, or what remains of them. Tens of thousands died on that fateful day, this place probably took years to build. I hear people whisper about the Wither King... nonsense. Fables and legends are for songs, and there is only blood and steel. We were almost through with the first floor when one of the young recruits screamed. In his hysteria, I heard him mention a talking skull. Can t blame the poor lad, those skulls seem to look at you all the time. "It s warning us..." he murmured. If there is one thing for sure, those little tricks won t work on the sergeant. I ve had my fair share of insubordination, already learned that lesson ten times over. Still, that look of fear in his eyes, it seemed so real... This kid is creeping me out. In fact, the whole place is giving me goosebumps. Did that skull just turn towards me? Those shadows are deceiving me. Halfway through the second floor, one of the scouts noticed an irregularity. We followed him through a corridor which opened into a large crypt. The tombs kept inside as if the whole place had been looted. Solomon asked for all soldiers to stay outside of the room, and then called the rest to inspect the crypt. After what felt like half an hour, the mages and scientists gathered around General Dan and the King s mage. There was no trace of any remains, the bodies and anything else those tombs used to protect were gone. This development corroborates the suspicions of evil work in the Catacombs, the expedition must press on. Whoever took those corpses left no clues behind. There are signs of human activity, but all those trails and footsteps lead to nowhere, just as if they walked right through the walls. After nearly 16 hours, it was time to rest. Because the crypt was large enough and had just been inspected, General Dan ordered the men to gather inside and spend the night. Grim Adversity 本文(英語) +... A scream broke the silence of the night. It came from the right next to me, maybe 3 meters, no, less. My first instinct was to look for my sword first and think later. My mind was still blurred from waking up, and my eyes could barely see. That scream again, full of terror. My fingers grabbed on to a familiar handle. I turned my head towards the sound and raised my sword in front of me, voices echoing from the rest of the room. Albert was there, frantically trying to grab on to something. He s trying to crawl, or so I thought. I realized that Albert s hand was covered with blood, his fingernails making an atrocious sound on the ground. I could sense a dark mass behind him, a man. "ALBERT!" I screamed as I lunged my blade forward. My blade pierced through the assassin, and as I got closer, a light revealed my enemy. Visions of horror. dark mass→Shadow Assassinを指す No eyes, and barely any skin. The face of death. My heart paced to a crawl, I couldn t move. Its rotten hand grabbed my arm and started to crush it like a twig. The pain brought me back to reality. I screamed and tried to free my arm. The creature held on to it, but I kept pulling with everything I had. During the struggle, I fell on my back, the thing lying over me. Something warm dropped from its jaw onto my neck, blood and flesh. Albert, or some of him. There was an explosion of light, I closed my eyes. A weight got taken off of me, moments later I understood why. A spell landed on the creature, tearing it apart. The fiend flew across the room and landed behind Albert. Something cracked in my arm, the hand of the beast was still pressuring it with inhuman strength. I managed to grab the thumb and free myself of its grip. The hand landed on the ground and kept moving towards me. Another lightning strike, the hand stopped. Solomon was standing next to me, holding my shoulder. His lips moved but I couldn t hear him, he was pointing at my arm. I turned my head in the direction of Albert, but he was dead... The Expedition Volume 3 本文(英語) +... A zombie attacked our group during the night, killing one soldier and breaking the arm of another. The 2 guards on shift were standing in front of the only entrance to that room, and swore that nothing came from that corridor. Somehow that zombie ended up on the opposite side of the Crypt that we thoroughly investigated only hours before. What is even more concerning, is what it did to those soldiers. It first planted its teeth in the skull of one of the soldiers and took a large bite out of its brain. How Albert survived for so long is a mystery in and of itself. As a precaution, we burned his body. Even after losing limbs, the detached body parts kept operating on their own until the brain was destroyed. Our current theory is that the amygdala has to be intact for the zombie to function. Solomon noticed fluid on the chainmail of another soldier, where the hand grabbed his arm. It can hardly be described without deeper analysis. This liquid could be a clue to the transformations or even the cause. The expedition left the room less than an hour after the incident. The group was reaching the end of the second floor when we got confronted by another apparition, the new creature killing 3 of our men before getting taken down. No doubt the undead we found was a Wither Skeleton, the same creatures that were described attacking the castle centuries ago, led by Kaeman, the self-proclaimed "Wither King." Skeletons, dark as the night, overbearing in nature, with bones akin to onyx, seemingly fragile but as tough as steel. This one was holding a stone sword and was strong enough to cut through a man wearing full armor with a single swing. Solomon believes that the expedition must return to the King s castle at once, we have reason to believe that Kaeman survived and took hold of the Catacombs. Our group isn t prepared for a confrontation with the Wither King. General Dan ordered the troops to march on, insisting that we at least explore the third floor before turning back. After all, we still had enough resources for another 4 days of travel. The Expedition Volume 4 本文(英語) +... Before our encounter with the Wither Skeleton, we heard plenty of odd noises. But during our time one the third floor, just like the first one, there was a deafening silence that caused great anxiety in us all. After a few hours, the group entered a large room, probably the largest one yet. The room had giant water pipes landing into large pools. Proof that the sewers had connections in the Catacombs. The General said it was time for a break, so the group started to prepare for lunch. Solomon reiterated his wish to return to the Castle immediately. After a short debate, General Dan agreed to end the expedition. Suddenly, someone yelled that enemies were coming. The sounds grew louder and louder, before encompassing us completely. We were surrounded, hundreds of those creatures, how could they be capable of such coordination? Giant spiders crawled out of the sewers, zombies appeared from the hall, and a volley of skeletons came from the other direction. The General immediately called for a rally and a desperate battle ensued. Somewhere in the chaos, I saw an opportunity to retreat. I landed a stun spell on a group of enemies near the entrance of the hall and quickly made my escape. A small portion of our group followed me into the passage. I do not know what happened to Solomon, the General, and the rest of the militia. I found refuge with a couple soldiers far away from the battle, but I could sense a presence watching us. One of the rescued soldiers started acting odd. He started mumbling to himself, and knowing the Catacombs, I was ready for whatever this could be. He started screaming "GET OUT!!!" and clawed at his eyes. Then, he stopped. It was abrupt, like a puppet s strings being cut. Suddenly, he leaped at his comrade and tried to pierce him with his sword. I used all the mana I had left to stun him before he could kill. The color in his eyes was gone, as if he was being mind controlled. (The 10th page is missing) The Catacombs hide an entire army of incredible strength. Someone has to come back alive from the expedition at all c... (Blood stains the rest of the page) The Walls 英語(本文) +... The Walls I saw it all. Monsters everywhere and every kind, in an instant chaos reigned over the room. We were all in battle formation around Dan, pretending to be in control, everyone was scared for their lives. I fought alongside Dan many times, the man is a legend, but how foolish can he be? Nobody in the group comes even close to his skills, we are all fodder to those foes. We should have tried to escape instead of fighting. The army of undead ran straight at us. "Their brains, aim for their brains!" someone yelled in the back. How can I aim for the brain of the skeleton that doesn t have one? This magic is beyond anything that they know. The sound of swords slicing through bloodless corpses, almost like chopping down wood. Zombies are terrifyingly strong but most of them have no equipment, nor technique, just running fearlessly to their end. I think it was Solomon s spells slowing them all, their movements seemed sluggish, compared to when they enter the room. The mage looked exhausted already, his face contorted by concentration. More and more came, it seemed endless. I saw a mage escape with a few soldiers, I wonder what happened to them. And then, it happened. The battle was raging when another of those giant black skeletons entered the room. The obsidian looking creature ran straight at the General, who had noticed it. Dan faced it with all his might, the battle veteran was even bigger than the skeleton. He raised his two handed sword and held it above his head. It was over in an instant. The skeleton was wicked fast. I held my breath almost as if I was bracing for impact. Dan s massive sword cut through the air incredibly swiftly, breaking the enemy s sword in half and the skeleton with it. We finally had hope, if anyone could get us out of here alive, it was General Dan. After defeating the Wither Skeleton, the colossal soldier turned towards the rest of the forces and released a battle cry, we all responded. Coming out of his apparent torpor, Solomon spoke. "Something is coming... We need to get out of here!" The mage started running towards one of the entrances. "Dan! We have to!". I looked towards the other entrance, and I saw it. The nightmare creature entered the room, it looked half human and half wither skeleton, with multiple heads. It levitated over the corpses and in an awful scream, threw a dark spell right at the General. It was over. Whoever was left from the expedition started running in total disarray. I followed Solomon, who turned just in time to create a magic barrier, protecting us from more of those demonic spells. I don t know what happened to Solomon, my only concern was as getting as far away as possible. Further in the corridor I saw a dead soldier, who probably escaped earlier. He was holding a torch and other materials, I would need them. Eventually, hours after I escaped the undead horde, I came into a room full of empty tombs, and where I decided to take shelter for the night. I moved some pillars to block the doorway to prevent things from sneaking inside. The next morning, everything had gone a lot smoother than I expected, nothing came for me while I was resting. Everything was fine, I noticed the opening was there, it was not a dead end. But as I followed my marking, it was cut off rather abruptly. By having a good chemistry of AGI× and VIT× depending on the user s playing style, they gain survivability in some areas while losing it in others. Hybrids are denoted by which stat is the highest. AGI-VIT Knights usually stick with a setup similar to an AGI knight. VIT-AGI Knights, likewise, generally stay with the setup of a VIT Knight. Ranking by efficiency, players tend to use AGI-VIT combination because of its higher ASPD× which allows players to do Pierce× chaining or if not solo with Twohand Quicken× with a decent ASPD. AGI Two-Hand Sword STR 90-100 AGI 80-99 VIT 10-30+ INT 1 DEX 40-60 LUK 1-10 Weapons Elemental Two Handed Swords or Carded Two Handed Swords AGI Knights believe that the best way to decrease damage is to prevent it from ever happening. They have high ASPD and flee×, but vitality, and by extention health, are low compared to other Knights. Additionally, using two-handed swords pushes their attack power higher than most VIT Knights. Their main method of attack is Twohand Quicken, which increases ASPD by 30%. When faced with multiple foes, they break out Bowling Bash. Finally, Counter Attack× allows for a higher critical chance against evasive or fortified foes. VIT STR 80+ AGI 1-20+ VIT 90-100 INT 1-12 DEX 40 LUK 1 Weapon Elemental or Carded One or Two-Handed Spears VIT Knights are good tanks in Ragnarok Online. They have the highest health and good defense rate, and unlike agility Knights, they usually use shields for added defense and Spear type weaponry. Levels mostly by mobbing, utilizing their tanking ability. SVD STR 100+ AGI 40 VIT 80 INT 1-30 DEX 45-60 LUK 1 Weapon Elemental or Carded One or Two-Handed Spears SVD Knights (STR×/VIT/DEX×) may seem similar to VIT Knights, but they have more uses than just being meatshields. Their damage output is higher while maintaining decent VIT, allowing them to excel at MvP×ing or PvP× in comparison. The typical SVD knight will level primarily on Large sized monsters utilizing pierce or they will make use of Bowling Bash or Brandish Spear for mobbing. Strength should be 100 at a minimum, most knights typically get around 120. This allows knights to be able to gain 1-hit-KO against High Orcs and possibly Minorous. At later levels, these knights will typically go to Thor s volcano and use pierce against Kasas. Intelligence is a variable stat, and general consensus seems to be that at least 12 points in it is necessary. One famous leveling method is Pierce chaining with Aspersio× in Chivalry against Raydrics to Abysmal Knights. The intention of this build, unlike the Two-Handed Sword build is not to dodge 95%, but to deal damage with rapid Pierce and sometimes AoEs before the enemy can do harm to you. For that reason, AGI Spear Knights often have more STR than AGI. AGI-Crit STR 70-80+ AGI 70-90+ VIT 1-30 INT 1 DEX 1-20 LUK 30+ Weapon Carded Two Handed Swords, Muramasa The AGI-Critical aka AGI-LUK Knight is essentially a knight with crit-sin stats. The advantages to this are obvious, Knights have more health than assassins, a passive health regeneration, and are also capable of attaining higher attack speeds. However, this will not be able to match the critical rate of an Assassin, and will have significantly less flee. With the advent of Soul Linkers, this build is much more viable, as even higher ASPD can now be attained with a sword and shield. Muramasa LUK BaseLv + 1 Remaining stats are left to the reader s discretion. This is a special build that relies on the usage of the weapon called Muramasa. Because the Muramasa curse×s the wielder randomly, if the player has one more point of total LUK than their baselevel, the curse effect can be negated. The Morrigane gear set helps immensely with this build, as it lowers the base luk required to meet the curse immunity requirement, as well as giving a large amount of crit and lucky/perfect dodge. Equipment Most Knights have different sets of gear for special purposes, regardless of what their build is. Items from these sets are interchangeable, while some are very situational. For example, a Combat Knife may prove to be more useful than a Fortune Sword in a map rich with Demi Human× monsters, but not against any other race of monsters. These are merely suggestions and examples; the reader should know what exactly best fits them. It also focuses on armor equipment, not just weapons. Note this guide is outdated in some areas as a lot of ingame content has changed, it s a year old, don t quote Rav on it. The guide was also intended for Knights not yet transcended to Lord Knights, hence the lack of Valkyrie Armor and some other weapons. The role of a Knight in WoE used to be more supportive, few ever Provoke×s (or have in the history of Ragnarok Online) and it wouldn t make much of a difference now anyway (aside from everyone having Evil Druid carded armor). Armor switching is also becoming increasing useless. Ultimately, most Knights and Lord Knights brute force their way through PvP/WoE, and it is unlikely there will be a complete detailed guide about either class so play however. Just don t be stupid and miss out on Spear Stab×. +冗長過ぎる Tanking/Pure Defensive All Knights once shared the same goal of obtaining over 80 DEF×. While this is no longer as desirable for WoE×/PvP with the addition of many defense-ignoring skills or items such as the Ice Pick×, it is still a successful set up for PvM. NotesIn short, use armor with the highest base DEF and a high upgrade. +10 would reduce the most damage, but +7s can suffice. Also use equipment that provides considerable Perfect Dodge×. Using armor with high base DEF is important a +6 Cap (4 base DEF) and a +4 Helm (6 base DEF) may appear to have the same overall armor DEF (10). However, each upgrade only adds +2/3 defense. The Cap, in truth, supplies 8 DEF while the Helm delivers 8.67 Sometimes the highest base DEF gear is too limited to over-upgrade. Move onto the second best. All defensive gear can be replaced with low DEF stat-increasing gear to level faster at the cost of becoming exceptionally vulnerable to monster attacks. Conversely, a financially lacking player might not do so, to reduce Potion consumption. These are some ideas for gear that will contribute to damage output or increased EXP gain if used properly. They will not enable its user to level faster if they die more than it is worth, or are not able to "take on" as many monsters. Receiving damage from MvPs rewards tank damage points, so taking as much damage as possible may be ideal. If this is too risky, do not substitute any defense gear for damage gear, besides Safety Rings for Muscle Rings or The Sign. Remember to always use Immortal /correct elemental armor when needed. The weapons used should be very specific to what is being killed. Putting aside Abysmal Knight card s, the best carded weapons are achieved by combing race, element, and size cards. Race and element cards add +20% damage to a specific race, while size cards add +15% damage to a specific sized monster and +5 ATK. If MvPing with Pierce, use a +10 four slotted "2 1 1" Pike. The numbers in "2 1 1" indicate it either has two race cards, one element card, one size card or two element cards, one race card, one size card If a race card is unavailable, use 3 element cards and 1 size card or 2 element cards and 2 size cards (3 1 or 2 2). Likewise if an element card is unavailable. If both race and element do not exist, a quadruple size weapon can be considered. The same method can be used with Katanas, if MvPing with Bowling Bash, although they require high STR to out damage two slotted Two Handed Swords. A moderate amount of MDEF is good, but it is often overrated 80 MDEF makes Knights susceptible to too much, and isn t needed when little damage is taken with half the MDEF and elemental armors. NotesSTR gear can be used. The extra damage taken from slapping on STR gear is as overrated as 80 MDEF is. Don t forget to bring items like Green Potions to cure the silence× status, or Holy Water to cure curse. Endow Scrolls and Cursed Water are also accommodating. The most vital are Unfrozen Armor Cranial Shield Status Weapons As a normal Knight, do not focus primarily on killing people - STR gear is not needed. Spamming Provoke on enemy wizards or stat using people to aid guild members or allies is more beneficial. Against the Emperium, Ice Picks are the best weapon available, coupled with Cursed Water. Evil Druid armor is helpful at the Emperium to negate Aspersio from enemy Priests, although another Cursed Water can simply be consumed or weapon switched to remove the Holy× property. ストーリー 大まかな流れです。 Chapter 1 リバティー・シティへ 某日、夜。主人公ニコ・べリック(Nikolai Bellic)は、リバティー・シティ(Liberty City、以下LC)に向かう貨物船の中で、期待に胸をふくらませていた。同地でアメリカンドリームをつかみ、巨万の富を築き上げたという従兄弟のローマン・ベリック(Roman Bellic)に会いにいくためだ。波間のむこうにLCの夜景が見えている。到着を目前にして、ニコは航海をともにした仲間ホッサン(Hossan)と、あの夜景の中にあふれた夢を語り合う。アメリカンドリーム。その言葉はニコに、まだ知らない金の輝きや毛皮の手触りを思わせた。ニコは送られてくるメールに書かれた従兄弟がいかに裕福な生活をしているか、そして自分が彼の従兄弟であることがいかに誇らしいかを叫んだ。ボスニア紛争後、ニコはまともな人生を歩んでいなかった。おれの従兄弟が成功し、そしておれを呼んでいる。さび付いた人生の転換期がきたと、ニコは確信していた。 船は港へ錨を下ろし、ニコはゆっくりと船を降りた。汚れたタクシーのヘッドランプがニコを照らす。タクシーから降りてきた太った男。ローマンである。彼は酒に酔っているのか、千鳥足のままよりかかるようにニコを抱きしめた。ニコ!会いたかった!酒臭い息に顔をしかめながら、それでも従兄弟に無事会えた喜びをかみしめるニコ。ローマンは昨夜のお祭り騒ぎは素晴らしかった、と、アメリカはチャンスの国だ、と、ろれつの回らない舌でうたう。足取りのおぼつかないローマンは、ニコにクルマの運転を任せ、俺の家へ行こう、と言った。 ローマンの言う“豪邸”へ向かって車を走らせるニコ。軽く酩酊したローマンの舌がよく回る。きらびやかな彼の話に胸をおどらせながら、ニコはその“豪邸”に車を止めた。ニコは初めて違和感を感じた。そこは、豪邸とは似ても似つかないぼろアパートだったのだ。ガード下の道路に面したアパートのドアは粉塵にまみれ、部屋に上がる階段の手すりは錆びて赤茶けている。部屋に入るやいなや、ローマンが床を這うゴキブリを踏みつけた。うちに住むなら家賃を払えってな!ゴキブリにそう吐き捨て、ローマンは何でもないかのように、ニコに苦笑いを向けた。 この従兄弟がアメリカンドリームを手にした、というのは真っ赤な嘘だったのだ。ニコは唐突に現実を突きつけられていた。さらにローマンは嘘だけでは飽き足らず、多額の借金さえ背負っていた。取立てから逃げ続け、質の悪い零細タクシー会社を営む日々。危険な目にも遭っていた。アメリカンドリームから遠く離れた生活。彼もまた、人生の波に溺れかけていた。そしてローマンはニコをはめたのだ。タフなニコを、自分のボディガードとして動かすために。 Chapter 2 人脈の構築 ローマンの憧れの女性、マロリーに呼ばれて、South Bohanのとある施設を訪れたニコ。そこにはマロリーとダンサー達、そして彼女らの指揮を執るマニー(Manny Escuela)の姿があった。彼はニコにストリートの事情を話し、治安の回復を実現するために掃除が必要だと訴える。ニコに付きまとうカメラマンを鬱陶しがりつつも、マニーの熱意に免じたニコは協力を約束する。ニコは売人の車を尾行し、アジトの敵を一掃した(ESCUELA OF THE STREETS)。 別の日、またしてもマロリーに呼ばれるニコ。そのマンションへ行くと、巨大な女性エリザベータ(Elizabeta Torres)とアイルランド系ギャングパッキー(Patrick McReary)、そしてニコを呼び出したマロリーがいた。エリザベータはプエルトリコ系の麻薬ディーラーで、自身もドラッグに溺れる危険な人物である。彼女は、パッキーが控えている取引の相手が信用できないことをニコに話す。依頼を引き受けたニコは取引場所付近のビルの屋上で待機。エリザベータの言うとおり取引は失敗したが、ニコは調達してもらったスナイパーライフルを駆使してパッキーを無事救出した。この一件がありパッキーはニコに一目を置くようになる(LUCK OF THE IRISH)。 ニコはエリザベータを通し、プレイボーイX(Trey Stewart)とも知り合う。彼の薬物売買の取引に同伴したニコは、プレイボーイXに仕事を求める。その取引は警察の罠だったようで、迫り来る特殊部隊の攻撃も凌ぎ2人は何とか生き延びる(BLOW YOUR COVER)。 大切な人 ある日、ニコは尋常ではない剣幕でエリザベータに電話で呼び出された。彼女のマンションへ駆けつけると、そこにはジェイコブとエリザベータが言い争う姿があった。事情を聞くと、彼女のコカインが何者かに盗み出され、その何者かがジェイコブが紹介してきた男達だと決め付け、ジェイコブを激しているという。ニコはジェイコブのために溜まり場と化した廃墟の病院へ行き、激しい銃撃戦の中なんとかしてコカインを取り戻した。駆けつけてきた大勢の特殊部隊の攻撃と追跡を回避しジェイコブの元までコカインを配達したニコ。しかし彼は意外な人物を目にする。 恋人のミシェルだ。ニコは「お前のいるところじゃない」と諭すが、ミシェルは本当のことを曝け出した。彼女は政府の元で働いている人間で、ニコの危険な行動を監視するのが仕事だった、と。彼女自身も罪悪感を覚えているようだったが、今まで本当の愛する人だったと信じていた人間に裏切られたショックは大きかった。ミシェルは自分の雇用主がニコの力を必要していることを告げるとその場を後にした(THE SNOW STORM)。 エリザベータの悲劇 エリザベータは、周囲に警察がうろつき自分が捕まりそうなことを悟り、不安に陥っていた。さらに今まで信用してきた相手がネズミ(密告者)であることに怒り狂っていた。明らかに平衡を失っているエリザベータの元に突然訪ねて来たのは、マニーと彼のカメラマンだ。彼らはエリザベータに「余計なことをしやがって、ストリートから出てけ!」と挑発的な訴えをする。怒りが頂点に達したエリザベータは拳銃を手にし2人の頭を見事に打ち抜いてしまったのだ。 2人の遺体をエリザベータの愛車に積み、医者の所まで運転することを任されたニコ。当然、合法の医者の病院へ運ばれる訳はないと分かっていた。目的地にいたのは袖が血にまみれたいかにも怪しげな男。人身売買をしているという男は訊く。「自然死か?」ニコはこう答えた。「勿論だ、頭部に銃弾がめり込んでるなんて、この町じゃ自然なことだろ」男は遺体を引き取り去った(HAVE A HEART)。 その後、エリザベータはムショ行きが確実となった。。。 ノース・ホーランド・ハスラーズの2人 かつて仕事を与えてきた人間がニコの前から姿を消し、金が要るニコは新たな雇用主、つまりミッションを与えてくれる相手をあたる。LCの中枢都市が位置する島、Algonquinに乗り込んだニコは、かつてエリザベータを通じて知り合ったアフリカ系のギャングプレイボーイXを訪ねる。「これは俺の町だ」LCを手中に収めたかのように振舞うプレイボーイX。そこへ現れたのが、かつてLCを支配していたギャング“North Holland Hustlers”のボスであった男、ドウェイン(Dwayne Forge)だ。 刑務所から出てきたばかりというドウェインは、ニコに幾つかの仕事を頼む。かつて貢いでいた恋人の彼氏がドウェインの金をくすねていたことが分かり、それを取り返した(RUFF RIDER)。そして更に、かつて通いつめていた“紳士のクラブ”の経営者を始末したのだった(UNDRESS TO KILL)。 プレイボーイXの仕事もこなしたニコは、彼に呼び出されることになる。実は、ドウェインの出所後以降、2人の関係は良くなかったのだ。プレイボーイはドウェインに殺されるという危機感まで抱いている。しかし、ドウェインも同様だった。2人はそれぞれがニコに、それぞれを殺害する依頼をする。どちらもかつて仕事をくれた仲間だ。どちらにせよ苦渋の決断となるが、ニコは意を決してある人の家へ向かう(THE HOLLAND PLAY)。 Xマークに行った場合 プレイボーイはニコの早すぎる帰還に驚いた。しかも、ニコはドウェインを殺していないと言うのだ。まさかとは思ったが、そのまさかが的中することになろうとは、彼も、彼の部下のギャング達も思わなかったであろう。 プレイボーイが部屋を後にすると、銃撃戦の火蓋が落とされた。激しい戦いの末、ニコは一目散に逃げ出したプレイボーイを追う。マンションを脱出すると、彼の仲間が駆けつけ、ニコに銃弾を浴びせた。しかしニコは果敢にそれを避け、プレイボーイに詰め寄った。 「X印が付いてた方を選んでやったのさ」 ニコは引き金を引いた。 Dマークに行った場合 ドウェインのアパートは綺麗ではない。床にはゴキブリ、廊下は落書きまみれである。彼の出所後の哀れな有様が露呈する様子であった。ドウェインの部屋には老いぼれた男とドウェインがいた。バットを持って襲い掛かってくる老人を捌き、ニコはドウェインに銃を向ける。そしてニコは殺す人間を間違えたのかもしれない、と彼の苦しみを感じた。それは奇しくも自分と重なるのであった。 探している人間 ニコはミシェルからの電話を受け取った。「誰だお前」裏切り者に対して、露骨に嫌そうな声を出す。しかしミシェルはお構いなしに用件を口にし、雇用主の所在を明かした。Algonquinの高層ビルに呼び出されたニコは、そのミシェルの雇用主、ユー・エル・ペーパー(U.L. Paper)と名乗る男に会いに来る。そこへミシェルが現れ、そしてミシェルというのは偽名で本名がカレン(Karen)であることを明かす。衝撃を隠せないニコ。オフィスの扉の向こうには男性が座っていた。 いかにも大物らしい彼は、いくつかの任務を与えた。完了すれば、ニコの犯罪歴を抹消し、さらにニコを裏切り大量の仲間を死なせたにっくき相手を捜索することを約束したのだ。無論、ニコが仕事に梃子摺るまでもなく、ユー・エル・ペーパーはニコの犯罪歴抹消と探している人間の調査に乗り出した。 マクリアリー兄弟 Algonquin南部の海岸にあるレストラン。そこにニコを呼び出したのは、フランシス(Francis McReary)刑事。LCPDの警官であり部下に慕われる存在でありながら、自身は穢れた男であった。ニコは多数の犯罪を犯してきている。それを見逃してやる代わりに自分にとって都合の悪い人間を始末しろと命令するのだ。仕方なく協力を約束するニコ。フランシスを脅迫する揺すり屋(CALL AND COLLECT)から訴訟を起こそうとしている弁護士(FINAL INTERVIEW)、果ては麻薬の売人(LURE)まで様々な人間を消すことになった。 そして再びコンタクトを取り合うことになるのがパッキーである。奇しくも彼とフランシスは兄弟関係であるが、兄が警官であるのに対し弟のパッキーは麻薬に溺れるアイリッシュギャングであった。港へ奇襲しトラックを奪ったり(HARBORING A GRUDGE)、古い倉庫で銃撃戦に身を投じたり(WASTE NOT WANT KNOTS)、ハチャメチャな行為を重ねつつニコとパッキーの友情は深まっていく。 あるとき、パッキーは長男のデリック(Derrick McReary)と友人の聖・マイケル(Saint Micheal)と銀行強盗を企てる。ニコも参加することになり、4人は車で銀行へ行く。金庫に爆弾を仕掛け、爆発まで60秒という状態で、床に伏せていた一般客が反逆を起こしマイケルを射殺。一般客は直ぐに抹殺されたが、ニコ達は1人の仲間をここで失ってしまう。金庫が爆破されると、急いで金を回収し、脱出に図る。N.O.O.S.E.特殊部隊ほか多数の警官に包囲されたニコ達は、銃撃戦を繰り広げ、なんと地下鉄の線路に飛び降りる。待ち伏せていた特殊部隊隊員も倒し、別の駅から脱出、3人は無事に逃亡するのであった(THREE LEAF CLOVER)。 大金を手にしたニコ。しかし、ニコが得たものは25万ドルだけではなかった。パッキーの妹のケイト(Kate McReary)がパッキーの仲介を通じてニコとの交際を始めたのだ。
